Disconnected From Your Intuition

An intuition that keeps being ignored doesn’t weaken because it was wrong – it weakens because you stopped listening.

Being disconnected from your intuition is reduced trust in your own inner sense, often linked to past experiences where your intuition was ignored or dismissed as wrong by others.

1 Understand the core chain

  1. A gut feeling or intuitive sense comes up about a situation
  2. A past experience where your intuition was dismissed or doubted switches on
  3. The gut feeling is put aside in favour of logic, someone’s opinion or outside reassurance
  4. The situation plays out without your inner sense being honoured
  5. Trust in your own intuition weakens a little more each time it’s ignored

“An intuition that keeps being put aside doesn’t weaken because it was wrong – it weakens because you stopped listening to it.”

2 Recognise how it shows up

  • Body: A subtle unease or gut feeling that gets brushed aside rather than explored.
  • Thoughts: “I probably shouldn’t trust this feeling”, “My instinct is probably wrong.”
  • Behaviours: Looking for excessive outside validation before trusting your own sense of things.

One isolated sign is not enough to define a pattern.

3 The cycle how it keeps going

  1. Gut feeling
  2. Past doubt switches on
  3. Intuition overridden
  4. Situation plays out
  5. Trust weakens

…and back to the start.

4 Explore questions to go further

  • What happened in the past that taught me to distrust my own intuition?
  • Can I remember a time when my intuition was right, even though it was ignored?
  • How would it feel to test one small decision by deliberately trusting my intuition?

5 Go deeper needs and beliefs

Need: To rebuild trust in your own inner sense of knowing.

Belief: “My intuition can’t be trusted; I need outside confirmation to know what’s true.”

6 Next steps where to go from here

  • Practise noticing a gut feeling without immediately dismissing or overriding it.
  • Test a low-stakes decision by following your intuition and watching what happens.
  • Keep a note of gut feelings and how things turned out, to build up evidence over time.
